Mental Health Support Team (MHST)

Schools play an important role in supporting the wellbeing of children and young people. The introduction of Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) working within schools is a new approach to provide an additional source of support to families and schools.

At Horniman School, we are fortunate to have the MHST working with us to tackle the challenges children and young people experience, by helping them to feel more resilient, arming them with techniques to look after themselves and strategies to help them cope better with life’s ups and downs. This includes support for things like mild-moderate anxiety or worries and friendship issues.

The MHST are supporting the school through:

  • Training for teachers

  • Assemblies and workshops for children

  • Workshops for parents

  • Direct work with families

If you are woried about your child’s mental health or would like to access support from the MHST, contact Sofie Hashmi s.hashmi@horniman.lewisham.sch.uk

The MHST led a KS1 Parent Workshop onFears and Worries on 6th March 2024.
