At Horniman we aim to provide a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum. The school works within a curriculum map that outlines how the National Curriculum fits together from Reception to Year 6. This ensures that there is a progressive build up of knowledge and skills and that the whole curriculum is covered. Teachers plan for some of the work from the curriculum map to be in the form of topics and some as separate themes. Each teacher plans, alongside the other Key Stage teachers for a term’s work. From the end of the reception year your child will study twelve different subjects. Our curriculum particularly focuses on five core subjects. These are English, Mathematics, Science, Information and Communication Technology and Religious Education. The other subjects taught are History, Geography, Art, Design and Technology, Music, Physical Education and Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education. We also plan for the spiritual, moral, intellectual and physical development of our children preparing them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
